Hiking the iconic Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo (PR1) route in Madeira was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by meeting Georgia from Wales. As we traversed the stunning landscape together, we quickly discovered our shared hobbies and interests, enhancing our adventure. The early morning sunrise painted the sky with vibrant colors, casting a magical light over the breathtaking views that surrounded us. We were mesmerized by the incredible greenery and unique mountain formations, especially the famous "Stairway to Heaven," which added a sense of wonder to our journey.
After conquering the PR1 route, we continued our adventure on the PR3 trail, where we were delighted to encounter some friendly donkeys towards the end. This hike was not just a physical challenge, but a remarkable opportunity for connection and exploration in one of nature's most beautiful settings.
First Impressions On Arrival.
Arriving in Madeira was nothing short of breathtaking. As soon as the plane descended, I was captivated by the lush greenery and dramatic mountains that adorned the island. The 20-minute taxi ride to Hotel Baia Azul was an adventure in itself, winding through majestic mountains and numerous tunnels expertly carved into the landscape, heightening my anticipation. Upon my arrival at the hotel in Funchal, I was utterly amazed; the modern design and expansive bar area with its outside terrace offering stunning sea views left a lasting impression. Breakfasts became a cherished ritual, as I savored the sunrise over the ocean. My room exceeded my expectations in size and comfort, complete with a charming balcony facing the sea. To top it off, a complimentary bottle of Madeira wine awaited me; I couldn't resist indulging in it that very night, toasting to the beginning of what promised to be an unforgettable stay.

The hotel offered an impressive array of features designed to ensure a memorable stay. Guests could enjoy both an indoor and outdoor pool, complete with a delightful poolside bar that served refreshing drinks. The fitness center was well-equipped, complemented by a sauna, steam room, and professional massage services for ultimate relaxation. Nighttime entertainment was a highlight, with engaging shows and activities most evenings. The staff stood out for their politeness and willingness to assist, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the bar's prices were surprisingly reasonable for a high-end establishment, making it easy for guests to unwind without breaking the bank. Overall, the hotel's amenities and attentive service combined to create an enjoyable experience for all visitors.

As Georgia and I set out to conquer the PR6 route, the early morning air was still crisp and the world around us cloaked in darkness. Arriving at the trailhead around 7:30 AM, we were greeted by the tranquility of solitude, the path laid out just for us. With each step, we exchanged stories of our past hikes, laughter mingling with the sound of nature awakening.
The breathtaking scenery unfolded before our eyes, revealing stunning vistas that made our hearts swell with joy. When we finally reached the majestic waterfalls, we paused to capture the moment, taking incredible pictures to immortalize our adventure. After a refreshing 20-minute break, we retraced our steps, stopping at a cozy café along the way. There, sharing snacks felt even more special as we fed the birds from our hands—an unforgettable experience, especially for Georgia, whose love for birds made the moment truly magical.
During my thrilling jeep tour in Madeira, we explored the breathtaking Skywalk, where the panoramic views left us in awe. As we traveled, we encountered multiple stunning waterfalls cascading down the lush mountainsides, a true testament to nature's beauty. Our journey took us to the striking black sand beach in Seixal, where vibrant crabs scuttled across the rocks, adding splashes of color to the serene landscape. We also had the chance to swim in the natural rock pools of Porto Moniz, a refreshing experience amidst the stunning scenery. The mystical Fanal Forest, shrouded in mist, captivated us with its enchanting trees and diverse plant life. Our day was highlighted by an unforgettable lunch at a jungle-themed restaurant, featuring moving animal robots and lush greenery. The exhilarating off-road segments of the jeep tour added an extra layer of adventure, making the entire experience truly unforgettable.
